NZTA approved training courses for Level One and Low Volume roads:

Level One TC Course....

is a one day basic road safety course designed as an introduction to temporary traffic management. It is for those individuals whose work takes them into roadworks sites and/or have some responsibility for traffic control. The course covers:

  • The responsabilities of a TC
  • The principles of roadworks layouts
  • Sign and delineation device spacings
  • Safe practices at the worksite
  • Static and mobile operations
  • ReadingTraffic Management Plans (TMP)

Level One STMS Course....

The STMS qualification for Levels LV & 1 roads is designed for individuals who have responsibility for site traffic management or preparation of traffic management plans or receiving and checking traffic management plans, or audit of traffic management. The content of this course includes: -

  • Responsabilities of an STMS
  • The principles of roadworks layouts
  • Sign and delineation device spacings
  • Safe practices at the worksite
  • Lane closures – when they are necessary
  • Appropriate forms of delineation
  • Static and mobile operations
  • Use of specialist equipment
  • The content of a traffic management plan (TMP)
  • The TMP reporting system and the responsibilities of the parties involved
  • Preparation of the TMP from planning the physical works through to the start of work
  • Generic TMPs
  • The NZTA safety audit system and its use for self-audit.

The STMS course is the highest qualification for Level 1 Temporary Traffic Management.  As the site STMS you will have the ultimate responsibility for overall Temporary Traffic Management at your roadwork sites

Pre-requisite for STMS Training
 
Before undertaking STMS training a candidate must have completed the TC training. There must be a gap between the TC course and the STMS course of at least 1 month.

The STMS course teaches you how to prepare and submit Traffic Management Plans, where to use what signs and when, the rules and regulations and how to set up sites.
