Typical roles in Temporary
Traffic Management
Traffic Management Operative
Colloquially known as TMO (practising warrant) and TMO-NP (non practising), you are part of the TTM (temporary Traffic Management) crew. Once you have completed this warrant, you can work as
a Traffic Management Operative.
After being briefed by the STMS in charge, you can:
- Mind a worksite in the absence of the STMS
- Set up a worksite for shoulder activities or roadside where TTM is clear of the live lane
- Undertake a roadside activity (on 60km/h or less road)
- Complete an inspection activity
If you want to progress to:
- STMS Cat A, B, C road environments
- A Traffic Operations Manager
- A TTM Mentor, TTM Assessor, or TTM Trainer
- A TTM Planner, TMP Approver
Site Traffic Management Specialist
To be become a STMS, you require a TMO non-practising warrant or existing STMS warrant under the previous qualification model. STMS can be warranted for Cat A, B, C roads assessments.
The STMS plays an important part of traffic management and is responsible for TTM on the roads. The STMS-U (Universal Site Traffic Management Specialist) is the base knowledge for the STMS Category A, B or C warrants. This relates to the different road categories and require their own warrants.
From a STMS-U, you can progress to:
- An onsite STMS on a category A, B or C road environment or in a mobile operation
- A Traffic Operations Manager
- A TTM Mentor or TTM Assessor
- A TTM Planner, TMP Approver
Temporary Traffic Management Planner (TTMP)
A Temporary Traffic Management Planner has the knowledge and skill needed to design a Traffic Management Plan (TMP) that is:
- CoPTTM compliant
- Used by the onsite STMS
- Fit for purpose (suitable for the site and activity)
A TTM Planner is also able to submit their TMP for approval to the RCA TMC (Traffic Management Coordinator). TTMP progress to fulfil one of these roles: TMP Approver, Traffic Management Coordinator, or
Corridor Manager.
