Awakino Tunnel Bypass Opening Ceremony

After 2 years of work, the Awakino Tunnel Bypass was opened last Friday by the Transport Minister Michael Wood. Traffic Safe NZ was there.

This vital route connecting Waikato and Taranaki will now be safer and more reliable by taking traffic away from the almost 100-year-old single lane tunnel.

Seven Sharp’s Carolyn Robinson paid a visit to get the story prior to lockdown, including an interview with our own Michael McLeod.
