What needs to be in a TMP?

You’ve been told you need to submit a Traffic Management Plan (TMP) for your project or event, but what information needs to go in it?

A TMP consists of the following -

1. Risk Assessment

A comprehensive risk assessment is needed to determine the risk profile for the specific site location and network impact.  The risk assessment is documented using the New Zealand Guide to Temporary Traffic Management (NZGTTM) guide and is the most important aspect of a TMP.

2. Proforma

The Proforma details the specifics of the work being done, such as the specific location, date, and times of work, who is doing the work, the work methodology, temporary speed limit information (as needed) and contact details.

3. Traffic management diagram (TMD)

The TMD is a drawing that details the physical layout of temporary traffic management equipment around the worksite.

Generic Traffic Management Plans

A library of Generic Traffic Management Diagrams (GTMDs) exists for use within a Generic Traffic Management Plan. The Generic TMP must only use or refer to these GTMDs.

If your work needs or aims to operate under a Generic TMP, you need to submit the TMP Proforma plus any additional documentation as required.

The GTMP must include a clear methodology for the appropriate decision-making to determine the actual GTMD to be used in any worksite you might attend.

Be aware that one decision outcome is likely to include the requirement for a site-specific TMP to be prepared for some situations.

Our TMP planning form will step you through all the information you are required to provide. If you haven’t completed one before and need assistance, just give our friendly TMP team a call.
